Eleos Counselling: Gentle, Compassionate Therapy for Anxiety Near Upper Beeding BN44, West Sussex

A calm, supportive space to feel less overwhelmed

Does your mind feel like it never switches off?

You might find yourself constantly worrying — about work, family, your health, or even things you can’t name. Perhaps you feel tense all the time, even when nothing’s really happening. Maybe your sleep is poor, your thoughts race, and your body feels tired from being ‘on alert’ all day.

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. What you’re feeling could be Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD) — and it can feel relentless. But it doesn’t have to stay this way.

At Eleos Counselling, near Upper Beeding BN44, we offer a safe, confidential space where you can slow down, breathe, and start making sense of it all.

You don’t have to push through this alone

Anxiety often creeps in quietly. You might still be doing everything — holding down a job, caring for others, appearing “fine” on the outside — while inside you feel unsettled, jumpy, or drained. Maybe it’s been going on so long that you’ve started to wonder if this is just how life is now.

But it’s not. You don’t have to keep managing everything by yourself. Therapy offers space to explore what’s underneath your worry and to find a way forward that feels calmer, kinder, and more manageable.

Common signs of generalised anxiety

If you’re wondering whether what you’re feeling is GAD, here are a few signs that may resonate:

  • You overthink situations and imagine worst-case outcomes

  • You feel constantly on edge or restless

  • Sleep is disrupted by racing thoughts

  • Your body feels tight, sore, or worn out

  • You get easily irritated or overwhelmed

  • Making even small decisions feels stressful

If any of this sounds like you, it’s OK to reach out. There is support available.

Why anxiety can feel so hard to shift

Generalised anxiety often doesn’t have a clear starting point. It may be something that’s built up over time — from stress, life experiences, early patterns in childhood, or even just the pressure of coping with everything day after day.

You might have tried to ignore it, to power through, or to fix it yourself. But GAD tends to linger until it’s met with real understanding, patience, and support.

That’s what we offer at Eleos Counselling — someone in your corner to help you feel less alone in all of this.

How therapy near Upper Beeding can help

When anxiety takes over, your world can shrink. Therapy creates space to gently understand what’s going on beneath the surface — so you can begin to let go of the constant fear, pressure, and self-doubt.

At Eleos Counselling, we work at your pace. You don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need to show up, and we’ll take it from there — one session at a time.

Together, we’ll look at:

  • What your anxiety is trying to protect you from

  • How it’s affecting your daily life and choices

  • Where these patterns might have begun

  • What helps you feel safer, more grounded, and in control

We’ll help you build trust in yourself again — so life doesn’t feel so overwhelming.

A kinder approach: learning self-compassion

Many people with GAD are incredibly hard on themselves. You might feel like you “should” be coping better, or that something is wrong with you for feeling this way. But anxiety isn’t your fault — and shaming yourself only makes it louder.

Our approach is grounded in self-compassion, inspired by the work of Dr Kristin Neff and Dr Paul Gilbert. In therapy, you’ll learn how to respond to yourself with the same care you’d offer someone you love — without judgement or pressure.

This shift can be life-changing. Instead of battling your anxiety, you’ll learn how to calm it — from the inside out.

What to expect in therapy

You don’t have to relive anything traumatic, and you don’t need to be “good at talking.” Your sessions are for you — a place where you can let your guard down, speak freely, and feel truly heard.

We’ll explore what’s been going on for you and build simple, supportive ways to:

  • Reduce the intensity of your worries

  • Feel more at ease in your body

  • Sleep and rest more peacefully

  • Make decisions with more clarity

  • Reconnect with your confidence and inner calm

Whether this is your first time in therapy or you’ve been before, we’re here to meet you where you are.

“I started drinking because I was anxious all the time.”
– Emma, 25

I never used to think I had a problem. I’d tell myself, “It’s just a glass of wine to take the edge off.” But over time, one glass became three, and then a bottle. I didn’t even enjoy drinking – I just didn’t know how else to calm my thoughts. My anxiety felt like it was swallowing me whole, and alcohol was the only thing that made it stop, even for a little while.

It wasn’t until I found myself cancelling plans, hiding bottles, and waking up feeling ashamed that I realised something had to change. I felt stuck in a cycle that I didn’t know how to break. That’s when I reached out for help.

Therapy gave me a space to be honest – not just with someone else, but with myself. I learned how much of my drinking was rooted in fear, self-doubt, and the pressure to seem like I had it all together. My therapist didn’t judge me. Instead, she helped me see my anxiety differently – not as something broken in me, but as a part of me that needed compassion.

Now, I still have anxious days, but I no longer run from them. I’ve found healthier ways to cope, and for the first time in years, I feel hopeful. Asking for support was the hardest part, but also the most important thing I’ve ever done.
