Eleos Counselling: Gentle, Compassionate Therapy for Anxiety Near Storrington, RH20, West Sussex

Professional Counselling for Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD)

At Eleos Counselling in Storrington, we understand how overwhelming and exhausting anxiety can feel. Whether you wake each day with a racing mind, struggle to concentrate, or constantly expect the worst to happen, you’re not alone. Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD) affects many people—quietly and persistently. You may appear to have everything under control, but inside, you feel constantly tense, worried or unsettled.

We’re here to help you make sense of what’s happening and support you in finding a calmer way forward.

Understanding Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD)

Generalised Anxiety Disorder isn’t just everyday worry. It’s a persistent, nagging sense that something is wrong, even when there’s no clear reason. You might worry about your health, your family, your job—or nothing in particular. The anxiety can shift and grow, and over time it can leave you feeling tired, irritable, or trapped in a loop of fearful thinking.

Many clients describe lying awake at night, mind racing, or feeling they can’t switch off. Others feel constantly “on edge,” even in ordinary situations. If this sounds familiar, counselling can help.

How Counselling in Storrington Can Help with Anxiety

At Eleos Counselling, we offer a safe, supportive space to explore what’s underneath your anxiety. Together, we look at the thoughts, feelings, and patterns that might be keeping you stuck. Therapy gives you the tools to manage anxious thoughts, reduce overwhelm, and reconnect with your sense of inner calm.

You don’t need to face this alone. With time and support, it’s possible to feel more grounded, more confident, and less controlled by worry.

A Gentle, Compassionate Approach

We know anxiety can feel like a private battle—and opening up can feel daunting. That’s why we work at your pace, with care and compassion. Our therapy draws on self-compassion practices, influenced by the work of Dr Kristin Neff and Dr Paul Gilbert. These approaches help you develop a kinder, more accepting relationship with yourself—one that quiets self-criticism and builds emotional strength.

Rather than ‘fixing’ yourself, counselling is about understanding yourself. From there, change becomes possible.

What You Might Notice When Anxiety Improves

Clients often tell us they begin to:

  • Sleep more soundly

  • Feel calmer during the day

  • Stop overthinking every decision

  • Speak more kindly to themselves

  • Enjoy time with family or friends again

  • Let go of the pressure to be perfect

These changes don’t happen overnight, but with consistent therapy, they are within reach.

Is This the Right Time to Start Therapy?

If you’re reading this, something inside you likely wants change. You may have tried coping on your own for a long time—or told yourself things will get better with time. But anxiety tends not to resolve itself without support. Seeking help is not a sign of weakness. It’s a wise and courageous step toward healing.

You don’t have to have everything figured out before starting therapy. In fact, you don’t need to know where to begin at all. We’ll meet you where you are.

“I started drinking because I was anxious all the time.”
– Emma, 25

I never used to think I had a problem. I’d tell myself, “It’s just a glass of wine to take the edge off.” But over time, one glass became three, and then a bottle. I didn’t even enjoy drinking – I just didn’t know how else to calm my thoughts. My anxiety felt like it was swallowing me whole, and alcohol was the only thing that made it stop, even for a little while.

It wasn’t until I found myself cancelling plans, hiding bottles, and waking up feeling ashamed that I realised something had to change. I felt stuck in a cycle that I didn’t know how to break. That’s when I reached out for help.

Therapy gave me a space to be honest – not just with someone else, but with myself. I learned how much of my drinking was rooted in fear, self-doubt, and the pressure to seem like I had it all together. My therapist didn’t judge me. Instead, she helped me see my anxiety differently – not as something broken in me, but as a part of me that needed compassion.

Now, I still have anxious days, but I no longer run from them. I’ve found healthier ways to cope, and for the first time in years, I feel hopeful. Asking for support was the hardest part, but also the most important thing I’ve ever done.
